For a lot of the NBA, these last 20 or so games are all about fighting for a spot in the postseason or deciding to reel it in and start tanking for draft picks. However, for a select few, there is always the prospect of playing for the top seed in the conference.
Right now, the Warriors have the best record in the Western Conference with the Denver Nuggets right on their tail just a single game behind. Naturally, the Warriors would want to go into the postseason with the best record in the Western Conference (the best record in the NBA isn't out of the question, either), but they aren't going to sacrifice the health of the players to do so, according to head coach Steve Kerr.
"That will never be the priority over health going into the playoffs. Health is always number one, but we're right there, and assuming we're healthy, we'd like to get it and home court."
Last season, the Warriors had the second seed in the West and had to play a Game 7 on the road against the Houston Rockets. The Warriors would like to avoid any kind of Game 7 during this year's run, but if there is to be one, the team would much rather have the game in The Bay instead of on the road in Denver with that altitude.
The Warriors are going to stick with their plan of resting players when they need it - which includes DeMarcus Cousins who is sitting out the first game of their back-to-back games in Florida despite coming off his best game of the season.
The Warriors are confident that they can go out and get wins on the road if it comes to that in the postseason, but if the No. 1 seed is there for the taking, they're going to go after it.
