How long is Stephen Curry out? Injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Warriors star

Only a few months after Kevin Durant (ruptured Achilles) and Klay Thompson (torn ACL) went down with season-ending injuries during the 2019 NBA Finals, Warriors guard Stephen Curry suffered a broken left hand.

Losing Curry four games into the 2019-20 season essentially eliminated any playoff hopes for Golden State. The organization has taken an extremely cautious approach with his rehabilitation plan knowing the team can't compete in the Western Conference without him, but the Warriors aren't embracing a full tank job and completely shutting down Curry.

What's next for the two-time MVP? Here's everything we know about Curry's injury and the latest news on when he may return to the court

Curry has been fully cleared for contact, and he participated in a team scrimmage on Feb. 22. Curry is still learning how to deal with nerve damage in his left hand, but he is targeting a March 1 return against the Wizards.

"I'm getting used to a new normal," Curry said. "[The left hand] definitely feels different than the right. You try to get to a point where, when you're actually playing basketball, you don't think about it. ... Anybody who's been through surgery knows it takes a long time for it to get back to true normal, so I'm just trying to, functionally speaking, be out there on the court where I'm not thinking about it."

Early in the third quarter of the Warriors' game against the Suns on Oct. 30, Curry drove down the left side of the lane toward the basket. He tried to sidestep Aron Baynes, but he collided with the Phoenix center and crashed to the floor. As Curry braced himself for the fall, Baynes tumbled backward and landed on top of Curry's left hand.

Curry stayed on the ground and appeared to be in a lot of pain. He eventually left the game with 8:31 remaining in the period, and since he was unable to shoot his free throws, he was not allowed to return.

Golden State later revealed Curry had suffered a broken left hand. He was taken to a hospital for additional testing.

"Obviously it's been a tough start for us on many levels," Kerr said after the 121-100 loss to the Suns, which dropped the Warriors to 1-3 overall. "We're just trying to find our footing. Obviously this puts us in a tough spot. We'll assess it, and we'll go from there."
