Amir Johnson and the Philadelphia 76ers are acting quickly to try and put the cellphone incident behind them.
The 76ers announced they would fine Johnson for using his cellphone while on the bench during Saturday’s playoff loss to the Brooklyn Nets. The fine is for conduct detrimental to the team.
Johnson apologized for causing a distraction.
“I take full responsibility and will accept the consequences of my actions,” Johnson said. “I also apologize to my teammates, the 76ers organization and the fans for the distraction this has caused.”
Using a phone on the bench is against league rules, so there may be some discipline coming from the league in addition to the fine from the team. Joel Embiid offered an excuse for looking at the phone, though his head coach was much less forgiving about it.
