Cavs and Suns Reportedly Interested in Luke Walton as Head Coach

With it being fair to say that Luke Walton's days as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers are numbered, rumors have swirled as to where he may land next.

Per a source that spoke to Sporting News, Walton could be making a return to the state of Arizona and taking over as the coach of the rebuilding Phoenix Suns.

Walton, of course, played his college ball at the University of Arizona before being drafted by the Lakers in the second-round back in 2003. And with the Suns making no commitment to Igor Kokoskov as of yet, it wouldn't be surprising to see Phoenix give Walton a look.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are also rumored to be interested in bringing on Walton, the team that he finished his playing career with.

Walton was hired by the Lakers two seasons ago to develop a rebuilding team before the team was able to score LeBron James in free agency, and championship aspirations were immediately placed on his shoulders.

The  Lakers record had steadily improved under Luke before a series of unfortunate events knocked LA out of the No. 4 seed and out of a potential playoff berth. You could question Walton and his staff when it comes to player development as seemingly every Laker that has left the team has flourished since leaving (D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Brook Lopez, etc.). But most NBA folks like Luke and what he brings to a team.
